Friday 23rd February - walk ***** – Martlesham Church to Kyson Point
for a picnic – sunny periods.
At last a day of sunny periods with no rain, I was tempted by a windsurf
foil but with Mag suffering with her eye after a recent cataract operation
she needed cheering up so I thought it would be nice to make the most of
the better weather by heading over to Martlesham Church again to see the
crocus and snowdrops once more. This gave me time to do my exercises with
some nice sunshine coming through the patio doors! Arrived at the church
just after 11.30 annd it was definitely a day for wellies and the
churchyard was a mass of purple crocus flowers, sadly they had taken abit
of a battering with all the rain in recent days:( Leavinng the church we
headed down to Martlesham creek with the path being really wet and muddy,
we spoke to a nice lady who lives a l lovely houseboat. We continued around
the bottom of the creek and the flood meadows above the sluice were
overflowing with water, with the tide high the water could not get away and
it was backing up, the horses in the field near the sewage farm did not
have to walk far for a drink! The large lake was popular with gulls, ducks
and some godwits! The path to Kysom Point is thanfully mud free and we even
spotted a muntjac feeding in a soggy field:) With the tide now dropping we
made it too our lovely picnic spot leaning against the boathose doors and
enjoyed another peacfull picnic. There was a large flock of birds towards
Woodbridge tide mill which we thought were dunlins but on a closer look I
think they might be avocets? We were fairly sheltered from the breeze
blowing dwon the creek and it was nnice to be out in some sunshine. Then we
ambeled back to the van another near 4 mile walk, after a really busy
journey to the church on the main roads we took the quiet back lanes back
to Felixstowe for a welcome cuppa:) Another top day out in lovely Suffolk
and there might even be another sunny day tomorrow!
